In the array of tools available to guitar players, I think the expression pedal might be the most underutilized tool in the box. Adding an expression pedal, like a Line 6 EX-1, to the arsenal is the perfect solution for controlling volume and wah, pitch bending, modifying the length of your delay time, creating reverb swells, changing the depth of your tremolo – the possibilities are endless.
Each preset in the Line 6 stompbox modelers comes with a set of parameters already mapped for an expression pedal, but the real beauty is how easy it is to customize the parameters that you want the pedal to control.
Just move the pedal all the way to the heel or toe position and adjust the parameter to be where you want it in that position. Then, do the same for the opposite position. See the video below for a demonstration.
If you really want to get wacky, M9 and M13 Stompbox Modelers allow you to use up to two expression pedals at once, using each pedal to control a different set of parameters.
