Like with any new technology, chips get faster and smaller and allow us to do so much more. In regards to what they can do in the James Tyler Variax modeling guitar, our crack engineering and sound design teams really stepped up to knock this thing out of the park!
Let’s get the info straight from Curtis Senffner, Sr. DSP Software Engineer at Line 6. He worked tirelessly to up the ante and bring to life the most authentic-feeling modeling guitar in history. Then we’ll hear from some players who got to reap the benefits.
Curtis explains, the new chip is significantly more powerful and has allowed us to:
- Run fuller and clearer models of guitar bodies and pickups
- Allow all models to be alternate tuned
- Improve alternate tuning purity and speed
- Provide alternate tuning customization
- Allow new modes of operation and editing

Can’t wait to get mine! Pre-ordered a Korean 69 in black. I at once rejoice and curse how fast technology evolves! Now my computer and my guitar can become outdated in a couple of years (though I still LOVE my Variax 700 and the variety and versatility of the Variax make it totally worth it all!)

Obviously I’m nuts! I mean using a digital modeling guitar into a Pod X3 instead of a “real” guitar into a vintage tube amp? I’m very clearly insane. Insane with a truckload worth of awesome sounds!

I see lots of online stores offering pre-ordering of the Korean models but, who will be selling the American models? The wait is killing me!!!!!!!!

Virtual whammy bar anyone? I want a Gibson scale with a tremolo, but you don’t make one; BOO! However, a whammy bar connected to a pot. wired up to control pitch. You already have a virtual capo that operates instantaneously, so you’re halfway there. No more tuning problems ever again!! Plus it can do everything a Steinberger trans-trem can do. And it could act as a wah pedal/bar as well!
